Lancaster County Super Fair, July 31-Aug. 9

The 2014 Lancaster County Super Fair will be July 31-Aug. 9 at the Lancaster Event Center, 84th & Havelock, Lincoln, Nebraska.The 2014 Lancaster County Super Fair will be July 31-Aug. 9 at the Lancaster Event Center. 4-H & FFA Fair Books have complete information about entering 4-H/FFA exhibits and contests. Fair Books are available at the Extension office and online. Many forms and helpful resources available.

Exhibitor Numbers Now Available

Super Fair 4-H/FFA exhibitor numbers have now been assigned. These LAN numbers are needed on static exhibit tags. You can call the Extension office at 402-441-7180 or get your number during static exhibit check-in.

 

Static Exhibit Check-In, July 29

All non-animal exhibits are called static exhibits. At the Lancaster County Super Fair, static exhibits are showcased in the Lincoln Room (which is air conditioned).At the Lancaster County Super Fair, 4-H & FFA static exhibits do not preregister, but MUST be physically checked in during Static Exhibit Check-in on Tuesday, July 29 between 4–8pm at the Lancaster Event Center, Lincoln Room. All static exhibits will be released on Monday, Aug. 4 from 7–11am.

Interview Judging, July 30

In Interview Judging, 4-H’ers have the opportunity to talk to judges about their fair static exhibits and share their trials and lessons they learned. 4-H’ers also learn what the judge looks for and how to improve skills.Interview judging is Wednesday, July 30 starting at 9am in the Lincoln Room. Call the Extension office at 402-441-7180 to sign up members for a five-minute time slot — preregister before July 25. Table Setting Contest, Aug. 1

Youth have five minutes to present their table setting to the judge.The Table Setting Contest will be held during the Lancaster County Super Fair on Friday, Aug. 1, 5pm at the Lancaster Event Center (Exhibit Hall — use east entrance). Preregister by Monday, July 21 by calling 402-441-7180. There is no entry form. A how-to handout is online and at Extension office.

Clover Kids Show & Tell, Aug. 3

4-H youth ages 5-7 are called Clover Kids. At the Lancaster County Super Fair, they may show and tell on of their exhibits.All 4-H Clover Kids ages 5–7 are invited to show & tell their exhibits at the Lancaster County Super Fair on Sunday, Aug. 3 starting at 1pm. To register, call 402-441-7180 between July 7 and July 25, or sign up at the static exhibit area Tuesday, July 29, 4–8pm.

Livestock Judging Contest, Aug. 3

The 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest will consist of two beef, two sheep, two swine and one meat goat class.4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest at the Lancaster County Super Fair will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, 12–2pm in Pavilion 1. Preregister by Thursday, July 31, 6pm in the Livestock Office at the fair. Youth may judge as individuals or teams. Teams will consist of four youth and one adult.

 

Super Fair Livestock Reminders

• Market beef and breeding heifers check-in separately. Market beef are 10–11am, breeding beef are 11am–12 noon on Thursday, July 31.

Volunteers Needed at Super Fair

The 4-H Corner Stop food booth at the Lancaster County Super Fair is Lancaster County 4-H Council’s primary fundraiser.Volunteers are needed to help:

Support 4-H by Supporting 4-H Corner Stop

The 4-H Corner Stop features a variety of snacks, beverages and of course, the popular Walking Taco! The 4-H Corner Stop food booth at the Lancaster County Super Fair is Lancaster County 4-H Council’s primary fundraiser. The 4-H Corner Stop food booth will be open Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, Aug. 3, 10am–9pm, located near the main entrance.

 

State Fair Static Exhibits

At the Super Fair, 4-H static exhibits will be selected for the Nebraska State Fair by the judges in the respective areas. A state fair sticker will be placed on all exhibits selected for state fair. 4-H members with qualifying static exhibits will receive information in the mail after Super Fair.

 

State Fair 4-H Foods Event

New this year, a 4-H Foods Event will be held during the Nebraska State Fair. Only teams of two people may enter, and both must be at least 10 years old. Youth will create a menu, prepare one food item, set up a table, choose a theme, while expressing their food, nutrition and food safety knowledge. Continue reading…

 

Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Show Entries Due Aug. 3

Categories of in the Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show are dairy, feeder calf & breeding beef, market beef, market broilers, meat goats, market lamb, market swine, rabbit and dairy steer.The Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show will be held Sept. 25–28 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. Stock Show exhibitors must be at least 10 years of age by Jan. 1. The Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Horse Show will be held Sept. 20–21 at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln. State Fair Animal Entries Due Aug. 10

4-H & FFA animal exhibitors ages 10–18 are eligible to participate at the Nebraska State Fair regardless of county fair placing.4-H & FFA animal exhibitors ages 10–18 are eligible to participate at the Nebraska State Fair regardless of county fair placing. UNL Animal Science Open House

A University of Nebraska-Lincoln Animal Science Open House will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 6-8pm at the Animal Science Complex on East Campus. Youth and parents can learn about the opportunities at UNL's Animal Science Department. No cost to attend. For more information, call 402-472-6458.
