You and your family can participate in the 4-H Embryology school enrichment program by watching chicks hatch on 4-H EGG Cam! A live candling will be Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m. Next hatch date is Jan. 25/26.
4th & 5th Grade Lock-In, Jan. 20-21
All 4th and 5th graders are invited to 4-H Teen Council’s annual overnight Lock-In, which will be held Friday, Jan. 20, 8 p.m.–Saturday, Jan. 21, 8 a.m. This year’s theme will be related to “tourists.” Cost is $15 per person. Registrations due by Jan. 18 (note registration date change).
4-H Pillow Sewing Workshop, Feb. 11
4-H youth ages 8 and up are invited to learn beginning sewing skills while constructing a pillow at the “Pillow Party” sewing workshop on Saturday, Feb. 11, 9 a.m. at the Lancaster Extension Education Center, 444 Cherrycreek Road. 4-H Achievement Celebration, Feb. 16
Lancaster County 4-H and 4-H Council invite all Lancaster County 4-H’ers, 4-H families and volunteers to 4-H Achievement Celebration. Part of Nebraska 4-H Month! 4-H members, clubs and volunteers receiving awards, scholarships or pins will be mailed detailed information. Light snack provided.
Lancaster County 4-H Facebook Group
Did you know Lancaster County 4-H has a Facebook group? It is another way to stay up-to-date with upcoming events and deadlines. It is a closed group, which means new members must be approved by 4-H staff.
4-H Meeting Icebreaker Ideas
Here is a fun icebreaker you can use at a 4-H meeting: people poems. Use the letters in your name to create an acrostic poem. For example, Bill could take his name and write:
Big,
Intelligent,
Laughing,
Loving.
Include words that tell something about yourself. Another idea is candy introductions.
Seeking 4-H Camp Staff
The two 4-H Camps in Nebraska are currently accepting applications for summer program staff (ages 19 and above). These are paid, full-time staff who live at camp during the summer and are responsible for daily programming and teaching groups of all ages. Initial application deadline is Feb. 1.

Red Letter Days are an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to get a firsthand experience of what life is like as a student at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Upcoming dates are Jan. 30 (Pre-Health), Feb. 10, Feb. 17, Feb. 24, March 3, March 10, March 17 and April 21.
