UNL Communication Studies and Political Science double major, Brodey Weber, took the project he completed for Dr. Allison Bonander's Gender Communication (COMM 380) course to the next level when he used it to propose a change to current Nebraska law around sexual consent.

Dr. Bonander explains,"the final project for my Gender class is a "Creative Project" where the students need to articulate a problem in gender and communication. Brodey's was consent legislation. Their creative project needs to directly address the problem through action, education, and/or awareness. The only requirement for the creative project is that it needs to be accompanied with an action plan for outside of the classroom". Brodey decided to follow through on his action plan and is working with State Senator Pansing Brooks to write and lobby for the bill and a change in how consent is understood in Nebraska law. Great work, Brodey!
