Glenn Korff School of Music students, alumni compete in vocal competitions

Several Glenn Korff School of Music students and alumni have done well in vocal competitions this summer.

• Baritone Thomas Gunther (M.M. 2008) finished second in the 44th NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Artist Awards competition in Chicago in July. He won more than $6,000 in cash and prizes. He also won the Kirsten/Browning Award for Most Potential, worth an additional $1,500. Current vocal student Emily Triebold won the Bernard Taylor Award and $750 in the same competition.

• Kayla Wilkens (M.M. 2014) won the Bill Hayes Award (4th place) and $750 in the 2016 NATS National Music Theater Competition, also held in Chicago in July.

• Cameron Dobson, a B.M. senior, won third prize in the Orfeo Music Festival International Competition in Italy on July 11. Garreth Soto, a B.M. junior, received honorable mention.

• Timothy Madden, a B.A. senior, received second place in the Tier II (student) division of the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition in Oakland, California, on June 25. He was one of seven finalists selected for the Tier II competition from a field of more than 150 applicants.
