• Jan. 6: Midwest Cup. All day. Lied Center for Performing Arts. The Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational is a full day of spectacular vocals and intense choreography. The Midwest Cup provides an opportunity for some of the finest show choirs in the region to showcase their performances and compete for the grand championship at the end of the evening.

• Jan. 11: Faculty Recital: William McMullen, oboe. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall.

• Jan. 15-26 Friends and Colleagues Exhibition. Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. Closing reception is Jan. 26 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

• Jan. 17: First Gen Nebraska: Welcome Back Waffles. 4-5:30 p.m. University Suites Multipurpose Room. This event is for any University of Nebraska–Lincoln student who identifies as a First Generation (first in their family to attend college). Free, all-you-can-eat waffles and sausage from The Waffleman will be served. Registration for students only is https://go.unl.edu/firstgenwaffles.

• Jan. 17: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Dawn Clements. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Clements works primarily on paper from the spaces of her immediate (often domestic) environment and from visual passages of film and video. She received her A.B. from Brown University and her M.F.A. from The University at Albany (SUNY). She is an Assistant Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design.

• Jan. 19-21: Winter Festival for Winds and Percussion. All Day. Kimball Recital Hall. The Winter Festival is a unique concert band and chamber ensemble festival for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. For more information, visit https://go.unl.edu/w2b9.

• Jan. 19-20: Glenn Korff School of Music Undergraduate Audition Days. Westbrook Music Building. All aspiring music and dance majors/minors are invited to audition for admission to the Glenn Korff School of Music. For more information or to schedule your audition, visit https://go.unl.edu/iz85.

• Jan. 21: Winter Festival Performance. 3 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free. The concert features the Honor Band, the University Wind Ensemble and the Festival Symphonic Band.

• Jan. 24: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Doug Casebeer. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Casebeer is the Associate Director and Artistic Director for Ceramics at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. He is also Chair of the Artist in Residency Program. He is in his 32nd year of running workshops at the Ranch. He received his M.F.A. in ceramics from Alfred University and his B.F.A. from Wichita State University.

• Jan. 25: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Kris Graves. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Graves is an artist and publisher based in New York and London. He received his B.F.A. in Visual Arts from S.U.N.Y. Purchase College and has been published and exhibited globally.

• Jan. 25: Faculty Recital: John Bailey, flute. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free. This concert will also be live webcast. Visit http://music.unl.edu the day of the performance for the link.

• Jan. 25: Flyover New Music Series. 7:30 p.m. Westbrook Music Building. Free.

• Jan. 29: Celebration of American Song. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets: $5 general and $3 students/seniors, available at the door.

• Jan. 31: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Jenny Polak and Dread Scott. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Polak makes site/community responsive art that reframes immigrant-citizen relations, amplifying demands for social justice. Scott makes revolutionary art to propel history forward. In 1989, the entire U.S. Senate denounced and outlawed his artwork and President Bush declared it "disgraceful" because of its use of the American flag. The couple's collaborations on state violence and transgression complement their solo work.
