Patrick Kingshill, who will receive his Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics this May, is featured in the May 2018 issue of Ceramics Monthly as one of this year's emerging artists in ceramics.

Shalya Marsh (M.F.A. 2016) was also recognized as an emerging artist in the May issue.

Ceramics Monthly is the most widely read publication in the field of ceramic art.

This national recognition has been awarded to a School of Art, Art History & Design graduate student for three years in a row. Stuart Gair (M.F.A. 2017) was recognized in 2017. Qwist Joseph (M.F.A. 2016) and current graduate student Neal Celani were recognized in 2016.

Kingshill was born into a family of cobblers, loggers and carpenters. He quickly developed a fondness for the crafts and eventually found himself at the potter’s wheel. Since then he has sought education from various community colleges in California, and eventually received his B.F.A. from San Jose State University.

In 2014 Kingshill studied glass and ceramics at the University of Sunderland, England, and has recently worked as an apprentice for Takeshi Yasuda in Jingdezhen, China.

He has exhibited his work in venues nationally and internationally including the de Young Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco and multiple National Council on Education from the Ceramic Arts conferences.
