Art enthusiasts will have plenty of opportunities to view exhibitions and live performances at University of Nebraska-Lincoln galleries as part of First Friday. Admission is free for these events.

Great Plains Art Museum
12th and Q streets
5-7 p.m.

"Dry Times" by Omaha ceramic artist Jess Benjamin, focuses on water usage in the Great Plains, a regional concern related the phenomenon of global drought. The west gallery features a show guest curated by UNL’s Elizabeth Ingraham titled “Drought Interpretations” and features paintings, fabric work and other pieces inspired by the issue of drought. Benjamin will be present for the exhibition's reception from 5-7 p.m. The Great Plains Art Museum is also participating in Lincoln’s Picture to Win contest during this First Friday, see details about participating at http://www.lincoln.org/play/seelincoln.

International Quilt Study Center & Museum
33rd and Holdrege streets
4:30-7 p.m.

The Skyros Quartet will perform in the Reception Hall at 5:15 p.m. have delighted audiences across the United States, Canada and China. Currently the Graduate Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, the members of Skyros are pursuing doctorates in chamber music performance under the guidance of the Chiara Quartet. In addition to viewing the International Quilt Study Center & Museum’s current exhibitions, visitors will see a selection of log cabin quilts created by local quiltmakers in the Community Showcase.

5-7 p.m., Performance 7-9 p.m.

“Riding in Cars with Black People & Other Newly Dangerous Acts: A Memoir in Vanishing Whiteness” will be performed in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium in Sheldon Museum of Art at 7 p.m. The solo performance by Chad Goller-Sojourner is directed by Tyrone Brown in association with Brownbox Theatre & King County 4Culture.
