Annually, ALTC will run Identify Finder on CEHS computers to seek out vulnerable data such as social security numbers. ALTC will alert faculty/staff members to the vulnerabilities they may have within the records they are storing and assist them in taking steps to alleviate the problem.
Identity Finder is a software program ALTC will install and run on CEHS computers to identify files with personally identifiable information (PII), such as social security numbers and credit card numbers. When files are identified, ALTC will notify the faculty and staff members and help them determine if the file/data can be removed or secured.
The ALTC goal is to install and run Identity Finder on all faculty and staff computers. Since scans can take awhile, they plan to schedule them to have a minimal impact on users. SECD has started this process already.
