The College of Education and Human Sciences, in partnership with Paul Mitchell the School of Lincoln, will present a seminar by noted author and motivational speaker Winn Claybaugh on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in UNL’s Nebraska Union auditorium. The presentation is free and open to the entire UNL community as well as to the public.

Claybaugh, the Dean of Paul Mitchell Schools, is the author of Be Nice (Or Else!) and “one of the best motivational speakers in the country,” according to CNN’s Larry King, who wrote the foreword for Claybaugh’s book. An entrepreneur with over 16,000 people in his organization, he is the founder and co-owner of hair care giant Paul Mitchell’s school division, with more than 100 locations throughout the United States, including Lincoln, NE.

Since 1989, Winn Claybaugh has traveled extensively around the U.S., working as an educator and consultant with audiences ranging from college students to CEOs. He has served as the National Motivational Expert for Paul Mitchell and has helped thousands of businesses build their brands and create successful working cultures. His clients include Southwest Airlines, the Irvine Company, Fuddruckers, Vidal Sassoon, Entertainment Tonight, Mattel, For Rent magazine, Structure/Limited/Express, and many others.

In his lively and humorous seminar Claybaugh poses a simple question: “Is a MEAN person happy or unhappy?” He suggests that “most would respond, ‘Unhappy!’ We’re all looking for a bit more happiness, aren’t we? It’s not like we wake up one day and say, ‘I have plenty of happiness. No more, thank you very much!’ ”

Winn Claybaugh shares very specific ideas and concrete steps to increase happiness, improve relationships, make more money and design a life filled with bliss and purpose. You’ll leave this seminar with an individually designed vision for your own personal and business growth, and you’ll learn:

• What real abundance is all about
• How to find your passion
• How to balance your work life with all that other stuff
• How to avoid burnout and stay consistently motivated

Can anyone learn to be nice? Claybaugh thinks so and believes that being nice is a learned trait. “You have to consciously decide to learn and develop the necessary skills to being nice. Being nice is not a physical trait passed on from your parents. It's not in your genes. It's within you. Being nice is an ongoing, lifelong course. You never get to stop learning what it means and what it takes to be nice...”

Having facilitated thousands of seminars, Winn Claybaugh is a frequent guest on national radio and a regular contributor to online publications that reach millions of subscribers, including DrLaura.com, Beliefnet.com, HealthNewsDigest.com, BrandNewDad.com, Wellness.com, and SheKnows.com. From 2004 to 2013, Claybaugh and the Paul Mitchell Schools raised over $11.2 million for multiple charitable organizations, including the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Larry King Cardiac Foundation, Fran Drescher’s Cancer Schmancer Movement, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Gary Sinise Foundation, Magic Johnson Foundation, and many more.

Dr. Susan Swearer Napolitano, Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and a friend of Winn Claybaugh, and Michael James, Professor and Chair of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design, are co-facilitating Claybaugh’s appearance on campus with Grace Ellis, Director of Paul Mitchell the School in Lincoln. In addition to his public seminar, Claybaugh will meet with students and faculty in the college to provide follow-up to his seminar presentation.

Nebraska Union auditorium doors will open at 3:30 for the 4:00 p.m. presentation. Tickets are not necessary but seating is limited. For additional information, please contact Sharon Reeder at 402-472-2911.
