The Student Academy of Audiology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host the Fourth Annual Huskers for Hearing 5K Fun Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at UNL’s East Campus Loop.

Registration for the 5K costs $35 for individuals ages 8 and older. Children ages seven and under are free. Participants are welcome to register the morning of the 5K. In addition to the fun run, the event also includes a silent auction.

Proceeds from the event benefit HearU Nebraska, a non-profit organization that provides hearing aids to children from birth to 18 years of age who have a hearing impairment and whose insurance does not cover the cost of hearing aids. In addition to supporting HearU Nebraska, the funds raised by the 5K also benefit UNL’s Student Academy of Audiology by providing travel grants to professional conferences.

The Student Academy of Audiology will also be presenting its Inspiration Award, which is given to an individual for providing inspiration to the students and expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities. This year’s recipient is Mason Will, a hearing-impaired child who has asked for donations to HearU Nebraska in lieu of birthday presents each of the last two years.

In the first three years of hosting the Huskers for Hearing 5K, UNL’s Student Academy of Audiology has raised more than $10,000.
