The International Quilt Study Center & Museum invites visitors to go "inside the wrapper" of its Mountain Mist Quilt Collection during a special presentation on Fri., Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m.

"Inside the Story of Mountain Mist," presented by Linda Pumphrey, will give an in-depth look at the collection as well as "Inside the Wrapper: The True Tales of the Mountain Mist Quilt Patterns," an exhibition that recently opened at the museum.

“I hope that viewers will learn about the stories behind the quilts and understand the long-term commitment Mountain Mist had for the industry,” Pumphrey said. “Viewers will see how the company realized early on the importance of the relationship with customers and with the department stores.”

The museum will offer refreshments and free admission from 4:30-7 p.m.as part of First Friday.

Pumphrey is the guest curator for "Inside the Wrapper: The True Tales of the Mountain Mist Quilt Patterns." As a quilter, she feeds her passion with a career spanning more than 25 years in the quilting industry. Recently back with the brand that started her career, she is Senior Account Executive for Fibrix, makers of Mountain Mist batting.

In addition to being an active member of the quilt industry and nonprofit sector, Pumphrey is an award-winning quilter. Her love of quilting grew from her mother and her grandmothers, a legacy that spans five generations of quilters. The Pumphrey Family Gallery, located on the museum's first floor, is a testament of her family’s love of quilting.

Pumphrey has served as a member of the International Quilt Study Center & Museum International Advisory Board since 2010. She is the Acquisitions Committee Coordinator for the IQSCM.

The International Quilt Study Center & Museum acquired the Mountain Mist Collection comprised of more than 150 quilts used for pattern inspirations or made from Mountain Mist patterns in 2012. The collection also includes company records, designs and batting wrappers. Pumphrey uses these artifacts to tell the true tales of how Mountain Mist made its brand legendary and influenced American quilt styles for more than 90 years.

The International Quilt Study Center & Museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s East Campus. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sundays 1-4 p.m. April through October. UNL students, faculty members and staff receive free admission.
