Designing and Making for Social Justice: Design Incubator Meeting

CEHS Design Incubator
CEHS Design Incubator

This Friday (Nov 18) at 3:30 we will hold the first in a two part series on designing and making for social justice (part 2 will be Dec 9th). All are welcome.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center there have been more than 400 reported instances of harassment and intimidation since the election--the NYT has also reported similarly—many of these instances have taken place in schools from K-12 to university settings. While incident frequency appears to be going down, for many the atmosphere remains one of fear and anxiety. In the remaining two Design Incubator meetings of 2016 we will consider potential roles for design and making to increase dialogue, safety, understanding, equity, and community.

Our agenda:
-Open discussion of issues of harassment and injustice.
-What those in attendance have experienced, witnessed, & felt.
-The history of design and making for social justice.
-Dyad and tryad design idea exploration and sharing.
-Mutual creation of next month’s agenda for part two of Making and Design for Social Justice.
-Open studio time

If you’d like to share your design ideas or making experiences related to social justice as a featured part of one of these meetings contact Justin or Andrew and fill out the sharing request form: https://goo.gl/forms/JS1FfUjunKmjIhnb2

If you know of anyone in CEHS, UNL, or the community at large who might like to be a part of our Incubator in general or these two meetings in specific please invite them to the meeting.
