Make a Difference: Apply to join the Civic Engagement Certificate Program

The UNL Center for Civic Engagement encourages students to connect curricular and co-curricular learning with opportunities to address critical human need through service, civic-related research and social change leadership. Students have the opportunity to change the world through participating and completing the Certificate in Civic Engagement.

The Certificate program is spread out over a minimum of two years to allow students to develop their skills and plans of action at their own pace. The Certificate program will not delay graduation and comes at no addition cost to the student.

Students benefit from completing the Certificate Program by developing skills in six (6) areas of Civic Engagement, including: civic identity and commitment, leadership, diversity of communities and cultures, civic communication, analysis of knowledge, and action. Students gain a competitive advantage in the job market by demonstrating their character through their commitment to civic life. By participating in this program, students increase their knowledge and gain personally rewarding experiences.

To qualify for the Certificate in Civic Engagement students must have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and have a minimum of four (4) semesters left prior to graduation. Applications include a resume and an essay. The third cohort will start in early second semester.
