Every year, UNL Center for Civic Engagement is a leading participant in the Lincoln community's initiative against poverty by preparing tax returns, free of charge, for low-to-moderate income families and students. in its 9th year, the Center for Civic Engagement's VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program was able to return approximately $2 million to taxpayers last tax season. Now, the Center for Civic Engagement is looking for volunteer tax preparers and greeters to assist the Lincoln community once again this year! Volunteer tax preparers and greeters are not required to have expertise in either math or accounting, and are able to serve according to their own availability. Each volunteer will go through a training session in mid-January and receive an official IRS VITA certificate prior to preparing taxes during the months of January-April. Consider giving back to the Lincoln Community and become part of our VITA team by signing up at http://engage.unl.edu/vita.
