Daniel Geschwender was awarded the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship of the National Science Foundation for 2014-2017.

Geschwender, computer science and mathematics double major, is a graduating senior. A student in the Honors Program and a Goldwater Scholar, he received two UCARE awards working on Constraint Processing under the direction of Dr. Berthe Choueiry in the Constraint Systems Laboratory. He has published three research papers.

Returning next year to begin the computer science PhD program, Geschwender is looking forward to continuing his work on constraints, specifically his work on automated algorithm selection for solving constraint satisfaction problems. The Graduate Research Fellowship will provide Geschwender with a source of funding, and will allow him to focus on his research.

Geschwender is grateful for all the opportunities CSE has provided during his time as an undergraduate student. He has worked on research projects with Dr. Choueiry, Dr. Dwyer and Dr. Scott. Dr. Choueiry has twice helped arrange summer research-focused internships. According to Geschwender, Dr. Choueiry and Dr. Damuth provided invaluable assistance during the NSF application process.

Daniel Geschwender is the third student in the Constraint Systems Laboratory, and the sixth student from CSE, to receive this prestigious national award.
