Meet the Student Resource Center tutors

CSE has six new tutors in the Student Resource Center this semester. Bring them your computing questions and get to know a little bit about each of them.

Grahm Manley
Hi! I'm Grahm Manley from West Point, Nebraska, and I'm a junior computer science major. I currently work as an intern at Nesis, which is the company that makes MyRed. My passion outside of computer science is traveling. Last year I was able to spend a semester abroad in the Prague in the Czech Republic and was able to travel around the nearby countries. I also really enjoy biking, cooking, and reading. If I had to give some advice to a new student I would say to always ask if something isn't clear, because that's what we're here at the Student Resource Center for!

Sherwin Chen
I’m Sherwin, and I’m from Wuhan, China. I’m a senior student majoring computer science. I love biking, swimming and watching movies. I can communicate either in English or Chinese. I’m also the TA for CSCE156 this year, so feel free to ask me questions about java.

Bryan Melland
I’m Bryan Melland. I have always enjoyed teaching students how to code and succeed in college. I have been focusing on virtual reality for my research and have helped teach a class on VR development.  Students should expect a fun and relaxed environment where they can learn and improve their coding abilities. I enjoy PC games and playing in VR. I hope to develop enterprise VR applications for a few years and then start my own company in Kansas City creating VR applications.

Hey! My name is David Carlson, and I'm a junior majoring in computer science and minoring in mathematics. Even though I was born in Lincoln, I grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska. It was in Norfolk that I really developed my interests: soccer, video games, and people. If you see me in the SRC, come say hi! I'd love to get to know you. My one piece of advice for other students would be to take advantage of any and all help for classes you can find (the university provides a lot!). It always took me forever to get around to asking for help because I wanted to solve problems myself, but don't be afraid to ask for help!

Marta Kodin
I’m Marta Kodin and I am a senior computer science major from Roanoke, Virginia. I enjoy drawing, playing video games, and painting my nails. I interned this past summer at Intuit in San Diego, California, where I did front-end development. I am passionate about computer science and its community. I have participated in hackathons and TA’d for 4 different classes: 155A, 155H, 156H, and 230. I know Java, C, Javascript, and several Javascript frameworks and libraries. A piece of advice I have is to start homework early and go to office hours, as that will be the biggest factor in your college success.

Alex Sturtz
I’m Alex. I am a computer science major with a keen interest in mathematics, graph theory, and automata. I can probably answer most math/computer science questions you might have (outside of elective stuff), as well as any questions regarding LaTeX, Linux, and a whole bunch of programming languages. I have always thoroughly enjoyed teaching others and lending a hand, so working at the SRC seemed like a natural choice. The SRC is a good place to study, get help (either from TAs or SRC staff, just ask us!), chat, or even just hang out between classes. It's a very open environment. I like to go hiking, play the piano, play video games when I have time, and I spend far more time tinkering with my Linux setup than I probably should. Like many others in the major, I plan on becoming a software engineer. I would like to work for a nonprofit where the software I write can make a difference in people's lives.
