Attend a Dinner and a Math Problem near you

Forty mathematics teachers, mathematicians and mathematics educators (some from as far as Scottsbluff!) gathered to enjoy good company, a good meal and some great mathematics the evening before the fall NATM Conference at a Dinner and a Math Problem event. More Dinner and a Math Problem events are scheduled across Nebraska over the next few weeks; look below for a location near you.

"Ovals and Diamonds and Squiggles, Oh My! The Mathematics of the game of SET," was the presentation made by Noyce Master Teaching Fellows Danielle Buhrman (Grand Island Senior High School) and Alicia Davis (Hastings Middle School), and mathematics graduate student Courtney Gibbons (UNL) on Sunday, Sept. 23, before NATM. NebraskaMATH sponsored the event designed to encourage networking and engagement in creative problem-solving activities. Teachers who arrived a little early for the NATM conference enjoyed learning about the game of SET – how to play and how to analyze mathematics related to the game – while enjoying a free meal.

Several teachers attending the event plan to bring the activity back to their own communities to share with colleagues and students. See below for the different locations or check the website: http://scimath.unl.edu/mathdinners/.

Also, be sure to check the Dinner and a Math Problem website to see a slideshow of the Sept. 23 event. You might recognize some of the teachers!
