For Summer 2013, the Nebraska Math and Science Summer Institutes (NMSSI) will offer an expanded program of courses with more than 35 courses designed with K-12 math teachers in mind. Even though formal UNL registration does not begin until early March, the NMSSI 2013 catalog is already available on our website, at the link below. In addition to many courses offered in Lincoln, this summer we are partnering with 11 Educational Service Units and local school districts to offer courses for mathematics teachers in these Nebraska locations:
Ainsworth, Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island, Hastings, Holdrege, Kearney, Norfolk, North Platte, Omaha, and Scottsbluff. Faculty from UNL, UNO, UNK, Nebraska Wesleyan and Wayne State will join the pool of instructors as will many master teachers drawn from the K-12 teacher ranks.

For all on-site NMSSI courses, current Nebraska teachers automatically qualify for a Tuition Fellowship, which amounts to 20 percent of in-state, graduate tuition. Additionally, Nebraska K-12 teachers can apply for a supplemental fellowship to further defray tuition costs for an NMSSI course. See our website for details.

In order to broaden our ability to serve teachers from across the state, we will also offer three classes online in Summer 2013: two courses in mathematics and one in mathematics pedagogy. Unfortunately, our agreement with the university does not permit us to extend the 20 percent tuition reduction to online courses. However, K-12 Nebraska teachers who take one of these online courses may apply for a supplemental fellowship to help defray tuition costs for these online courses.
