Researchers get chance to shine at Science Slam

Science Slam is March 16.
Science Slam is March 16.

UNL students are invited to present their research and compete for prizes during the inaugural Science Slam on Wednesday, March 16 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Nebraska Union’s Colonial Room.

In this new campus-wide contest, graduate and undergraduate researchers from all scientific disciplines (including engineering, math and the social sciences) are challenged to communicate their work to a diverse audience through short, dynamic, and engaging presentations. The winning presentation will be decided by the audience.

These will not be the usual highly technical conference talks that only experts in your field would understand. Rather, the goal is to communicate and promote UNL research across the divides of discipline, expertise, and skill level, fostering a fun, enthusiastic, and fertile research climate on campus.

Interested graduate and undergraduate researchers are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity – to share their work with peers in a fun and supportive environment, to add a little bling to their CV, and win a $50 prize if selected as a finalist. The winner will win an additional $250.

All members of the UNL community are also welcome to register for a seat in the audience. Cheer the slammers on, and then it's up to you to decide who gave the most compelling presentation and deserves to be crowned Supreme Science Slammer. There is no registration deadline, but space is limited, so sign up now for a seat in the audience and at the table for the lunch buffet.

* Presenter applications will be accepted through Thursday, February 25.

* Finalist presenters will be announced Tuesday, March 1.

* Winner will be decided at the Science Slam on Wednesday, March 16.
