Civic Engagement partners with Big Ten Network for scholarship award

UNL's Civic Engagement program is partnering with the Big Ten Network LiveBIG initiative to award a $1,000 scholarship for outstanding service.

LiveBIG is designed to highlight university students engaged in service and to promote additional voluntary engagement with community non-profit agencies, schools, health care facilities, etc.

The Big Ten Network will award the $1,000 Scholarship for Outstanding Service to one UNL student. To be eligible, students need to serve a minimum of 10 unpaid hours between today and Dec. 9 with a not-for-profit community partner. Each scholarship applicant must submit a 500- to 1,000-word essay about the volunteer community engagement experience.

Five finalists will be selected and profiled online at http://www.btnlivebig.com. The winner will be selected by an online vote. The winner will be announced at the last home men's basketball game of the season and will be featured on the Big Ten Network LiveBIG website.

Scholarship applications and essays will be accepted electronically from Nov. 14 to Dec. 9 at http://go.unl.edu/ceo.
