Nebraska Broadband Initiative releases regional plans

The Nebraska Broadband Initiative has released a series of regional plans outlining priorities and strategies on broadband usage throughout the state.

"Broadband is key for economic development and quality life," said Charlotte Narjes, the special programs coordinator for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's department of agricultural economics. "We hope that Nebraska continues to move forward economically."

Roger Terry, a professor of agricultural leadership, education and communication, said that rural areas use broadband to help retain young people and recruit families to their area.

"Rural areas want to see an increase in economic development and to be sure that they can sustain their economy in their areas," Terry said. "They also see broadband usage and application as an opportunity to increase the quality of life and the well-being of rural families."

On Nov. 1, the Nebraska Broadband Initiative will host a state broadband plan kickoff. The event will be at 1526 K Street in the lower level. There will be a video conference at the event linking up to sites across the state.
