Nominations sought for professorships

UNL seeks nominations for a number of prestigious university professorships available to faculty members. The process, application forms and other information can be found at http://www.unl.edu/svcaa/honors/professorships.shtml.
UNL seeks candidates for the following professorships: George Holmes University Professor; James Hewett University Professor of Chemistry; Paula and D.B. Varner University Professor; Willa Cather Professorship and Charles Bessey Professorship; Aaron Douglas Professorship and John E. Weaver Professorship; and Susan J. Rosowski Professorship.
The Holmes, Hewett, and Varner professorships recognize UNL’s most eminent faculty members who have shown an extraordinary level of scholarly or creative achievement and clear potential for continuing accomplishments. The professorships are funded by donors through the University of Nebraska Foundation and include a $15,000 five-year renewable stipend.
The Cather/Bessey, Douglas/Weaver and Rosowski professorships recognize outstanding faculty members for their contributions in research or teaching and promise for future excellence. These professorships are funded by the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Cather/Bessey and Douglas/Weaver professorships include a $5,000 annual stipend. The Rosowski professorship carries a $3,000 stipend and is available only to faculty at the Associate Professor rank.
Criteria differ for each professorship but the application processes are similar. Applications include the nomination form, abbreviated C.V, nomination letters from the applicant’s chair and college dean, and contact information for external letters of reference. Note that deadlines for submission to deans’ offices differs by college; check with your college to ensure you meet deadlines. Deans’ offices must submit nominations to the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs by Nov. 14.
Nominations will be considered by the University Professorships Committee and nominees’ names forwarded to the chancellor for his consideration. Successful candidates will be notified in early spring and publicly announced and recognized at the April Honors Convocation. The appointment terms begin in August 2012.
