Mark calendars for 2 key meetings

Two important events for IANR faculty and staff are coming up this semester:

-- On Jan. 23 there will be an open session to discuss major opportunities to collaborate with arguably the leading agriculture and natural resources institution of higher education in Brazil.

In early December, a delegation of UNL faculty traveled to Piracicaba, Brazil to brainstorm with faculty and administrators of the University of Sao Paulo-ESALQ around areas of potential collaboration including food science and technology, plant and animal sciences, bioenergy, and water resources management. The gathering culminated in IANR's signing of a letter of intent to develop a full partnership between our campuses. USP-ESALQ will in turn send a delegation of its faculty leadership to UNL in June to further develop plans.

Additionally, 29 undergraduate students from Brazil are enrolling at UNL this semester as the first group under a new “Science Without Borders” initiative, focused on STEM fields, being launched by the Brazilian government.

The Jan. 23 session, at 3 p.m. in the Nebraska East Union, will provide a fuller picture and understanding of these plans.

-- The second date to note on your calendar is Friday, Feb. 10, from 2-4 p.m. This will be the day that we will gather for our IANR ALL HANDS session for the spring semester when we will have an opportunity to get updated on the major progress we are continuing to make in IANR, including updates on the IANR to 2025 effort.
