Two openings are available:
1. Copy Production Editor
The Record (Bergen County, NJ) has an opening for a full-time Copy Production Editor who will perform all duties of a copy editor along with page layout and Web posting. This editor may also be called on for occasional or regular slotting. The successful candidate must have strong editing skills, a solid journalism background, and the ability to work with other editors and writers under strict deadlines. He or she must display sound news judgment in selecting and placing stories, photos, illustrations and graphics, and making the appropriate headline calls. The successful candidate must be proficient in the necessary technology, including Windows XP, Word and Quark. He or she will be responsible for laying out pages that package related news stories and make full use of available graphics and typographical devices to make pages attractive, imaginative and reader-inviting. The candidate will also post stories on the Web site as needed and directed. Applicants must have a minimum of five years of newspaper editing experience. Hours and days will vary but generally this job will work late afternoons/evenings.

2. Paginator
The Record (Bergen County, NJ) has an opening for a full-time paginator. The job entails building pages in QuarkXpress in a PC format, often under deadline pressure. This person must have a keen eye to catch production errors and be able to think on his or her feet when a problem arises, and should possess creativity, confidence, and patience. Requires proficiency in using QuarkXpress Software, Prestige or other related front-end system; familiarity with Adobe Photoshop.; extensive familiarity with the English language; computer literacy. Must be able to understand and identify typography concepts and distinguish between fonts. Familiarity and understanding of newspaper concepts preferred. Days and hours vary.
