CoJMC career opportunity

The Pennsylvania Legislative Correspondents Association is now accepting applications for our 2013 summer internship program at the state Capitol in Harrisburg, Pa.

The program runs for 12 weeks and interns spend two-week rotations working for six newsroom organizations: the Allentown Morning Call, Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, The Harrisburg Patriot-News, and Capitolwire.com.

During those rotations, interns will help cover the state budget process, committee hearings, and various political and policy issues. Interns are expected to pitch their own story ideas as well as take assignments.

Applicants should be college juniors, seniors or graduate students. We have accepted some sophomores with previous newsroom experience.

Start dates are flexible, but those selected as interns will be expected to complete the entire 12-week rotation.

Pay is $500/week. Interns are expected to use their own laptop and cell phone – a small stipend will be provided to help cover cell phone costs.

Preference is given to students who plan to pursue a career in political journalism, though former interns have gone on to cover a wide array of beats across different media.

To apply, please submit digital copies of your cover letter, resume and six to eight clips to:
