Humanities Nebraska has two PAID internship openings

Humanities Nebraska (HN), a statewide non-profit organization is seeking 2 part-time interns for fall 2014 to assist with the coordination, marketing and assessment of statewide humanities- based programs.

Program/Outreach Coordinator Description:
$9 per hour, working at least 10 hours per week

• Under general supervision, the intern will assist with Prime Time Family Reading Time evaluation, collection of data and anecdotes, compilation and distribution of final reports, publicity, filing, and distribution of books and materials.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with good communication skills (verbal and written), experience with data collection and reporting, and an interest in literacy, history, family reading programs. Familiarity with program evaluation methods would be beneficial.

Communications Coordinator Description:
$9 per hour, working at least 10 hours per week

• Under general supervision, the intern will write, update and maintain HN’s social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
• Update HN website
• Assist in writing and managing weekly e-blast
• Draft news releases and articles for newsletters
• Collaborate with communications manager on ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications

Ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of available tools and platforms for social media, computer literate and proficient in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, detail-oriented with good communication skills (verbal and written), self-motivated, good organizational skills, an ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines. Previous experience in marketing, design, or communications is a plus.

Programs coordinated by HN include:
• Prime Time Family Reading Time: A family literacy program for at-risk children and their parents held in libraries and schools. Bilingual sessions offered for Spanish-speaking families.
• Chautauqua: Scholars portraying historical figures bring history to life in rural communities through an entertaining and educational format.
• Nebraska Conversations: This program provides a safe, open and reflective environment for civil community discussion over important current issues.
• Capitol Forum on America’s Future: U.S. foreign policy study for high school students and their teachers across the state, culminating in a day of deliberation at the State Capitol in Lincoln.

HN is located on the 3rd floor of the Lincoln Community Foundation building, Centennial Mall & N St., and is flexible on hours worked. The internship may extend to the spring semester.
