Reporters, The Washington Post

PowerPost, our vertical distilling Post coverage into a must-read stream geared to leaders in Washington, is significantly expanding. Building on the enormous success of James Hohmann’s The Daily 202, we will be launching three new newsletters in areas critical to the incoming administration and Congress. PowerPost will also be hiring a deputy editor and a researcher to help support our growing ambitions.

REPORTERS:

We are looking for three reporters to anchor daily newsletters that focus on distinct areas: financial services/economic policy; healthcare policy; and, energy and environmental policy.

The ideal candidates will have experience covering the relevant policy areas and an ability to both zero in on critical incremental developments as well as pull back to tell broader, thematic stories. These reporters should also be able to write for readers inside-the-Beltway and those outside of it who want to understand how the nation’s capital works.

The main responsibility of these reporters will be to helm a daily newsletter that contains an original, authored top that breaks news and contains sophisticated analysis. The goal is to become a must-read for decision-makers interested in these topics and for the reporters to use the resources at their disposal to create a lively, digital product that distinguishes itself in a crowded environment. The reporters will also work to break news and deliver enterprise stories.

The candidates should have a fast metabolism and be willing to work in a flexible news environment to rapidly adapt as breaking news occurs, and they should be savvy on social media.

Those interested in these positions should by January 27 send their resume and three writing samples, in addition to any newsletter writing they can submit, to Rachel Van Dongen (Rachel.vandongen@washpostcom), Steven Ginsberg (steven.ginsberg@washpost.com), Amy Gardner (amy.gardner@washpost.com) or Tracy Grant (tracy.grant@washpost.com).
