Video Editor, The Washington Post

The Washington Post is seeking a digital-savvy video editor to join the Emerging News Products team as we launch a new product targeted at millennial women. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience with motion graphics, editing, sourcing and thinking in creative and easy to understand ways. The editor will produce compelling video for a national audience — and understand how to balance deadline needs with ambitious ideas. This editor will also be able to step in as needed to do live video edits and breaking news production. The ideal candidate is excited to employ creative, unusual visuals to connect with millennial women in the social world.

The successful candidate has experience producing, shooting, writing and editing compelling video stories for a national audience. The ability to develop story ideas that would appeal to millennial women and execute the completed video independently or as part of a team is key. We are looking for people who have experience lighting shots for video and using multiple types of professional video and DSLR cameras.

This is a highly visual product, with an emphasis on platform-specific distribution. Candidates should have a strong understanding of content created for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other social platforms. We need someone who can take a traditional story and turn it into an alternative story form. This person will also be expected to develop and execute original content ideas (in non-traditional forms). Some story assigning may be involved as well. The ability to move quickly and be flexible is critical.

Washington Post video editors have experience in a high-pressure newsroom environment, strong news judgment, familiarity with search and SEO best practices, strong writing skills and experience writing news stories. They have a record of excellence in news media, social media and emerging platforms and the ability to use Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and social video tools.

Interested candidates should contact Christopher Meighan (christopher.meighan@washpost.com), Amy King (amy.king@washpost.com) or Tracy Grant (tracy.grant@washpost.com) with resumes, cover letters and links to recent work by January 24.
