Designer, The Washington Post

The Washington Post’s Emerging News Products team has an immediate opening for a designer. This role requires well-rounded designers who will work across our suite of products to produce bold experiences for our readers. This role will focus on design for the Washington Post’s tablet and phone apps.

This position may also spend time working on a new product targeted at millennial women. This highly visual venture will have an emphasis on platform-specific distribution. We are looking for people who have a strong understanding of content created specifically for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and other social platforms. This candidate will be responsible for editing traditional stories into alternative forms that make sense on social platforms (think Instagram campaigns, illustrated stories, animations with audio, share cards, captioned videos, quick reads). The ability to move quickly is critical.

We are looking for a top-notch visual journalist with experience in a fast-paced and live news environment. Familiarity with web production and managing your work across platforms is encouraged, but not required. We are looking for a person who can think differently about how we deliver journalism for new, national audiences. Strong typography and conceptual illustration skills are the keys to this position.

It is also essential that this person be a team player who is excited about the future of news across tiny and big screens. It also will help to have a spirit of adventure, as we’ll be experimenting with new approaches on evolving and emerging platforms. This position will require working nights and weekends.

Interested candidates should contact Christopher Meighan (christopher.meighan@washpost.com), Amy King (amy.king@washpost.com) or Tracy Grant (tracy.grant@washpost.com) with resumes, cover letters and links to recent work by January 24.
