This position is for Reporter/Backpack Journalist. We’re looking for a pioneer in the next generation of news gathering. We report news on every platform available to our viewers. Successful journalist will shoot, write, produce content on air and online. He/she will have a demonstrated ability to work individually or as part of a team to produce compelling packages on deadline and the time management skills to produce news stories for WOWT. You’ll use the latest technology, including lightweight next generation video backpacks.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
-Posting stories on all WOWT platforms, on-air (tickers), website, social media, mobile platforms
-Write, shoot and edit effective news topicals
-Recognize the importance of promoting the WOWT news product
-Drive traffic to the WOWT website
-Be internally and externally recognized as an ambassador for WOWT.com
-Be an authority on the WOWT brand and competitors
-Ensure that the brand standards are met across all platforms
-Promote the brand and its values at all opportunities
-May act as grip for other writer/producers during shoots, this would involve helping to stop equipment, teardown equipment, and loading of equipment from and into vans
Qualifications:
-Prior experience as a broadcast reporter or photojournalist.
-Prefer a candidate with a four year journalism or communication degree
-Must have solid people skills and able to work individually or in a team environment when working with reporters and producers
-Ability to operate under constant deadline pressure
-Valid driver’s license and a clean MVR
-Ability to carry moderately heavy equipment on a daily basis (approx. 40 lbs)
-Strong writing skills and ability to write accurately and creatively under constant deadline pressure
