Case, McCarty named finalists by Association of Food Journalists

Two University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications students enrolled in the Fall 2016 Nebraska Mosaic course were named finalists in the student division of the Association of Food Journalists 2017 awards competition.

Graduate student Emily Case was named as a finalist for her story, “Food as a Cultural Oasis,” and Joe McCarty, a December 2016 grad, was tapped for his story, “The Business of Food.” Both stories were published as part of a Nebraska Mosaic special report called “Spice of Life: Food and New Americans.”

Case and McCarty are among three finalists named in the student division for “Best Writing on Food.” First-, second- and third-place winners will be announced on Sept. 13, 2017, at a special awards ceremony during AFJ’s annual conference in Philadelphia.
