Valerie Jones, an assistant professor at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, was selected to be part of the Executive Committee of the Advertising Division for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Jones was encouraged to run for the position by her peers and received the votes needed during the AEJMC annual conference in Chicago. She will serve for three years with the opportunity to be reelected after her first term.

“It’s a great piece of recognition that I’m an active member of the community and I bring value from my 15 years of professional experience to the academic setting, “Jones said. “This is a valuable opportunity to build relationships with people from other colleges and to make sure we are all providing the best teaching experience for our students.”

Jones will meet with her committee throughout the year via Skype to assign tasks. The committee is responsible for organizing five different paper competitions during the year and a poster session during the annual conference. The Advertising Division of the AEJMC is seen as the bridge between the professional and academic world.

The committee is headed by Kelty Logan, an associate professor at the University of Colorado – Boulder’s College of Media, Communication and Information. Logan sees the opportunity to be on the committee as a huge benefit to faculty members.

“Faculty members are exposed to new points of view and new ideas from other scholars and universities,” Logan said. “Such exposure informs our research as well as the perspective we bring to our own departments. We are looking forward to working with Valerie this year. I've collaborated with her in the past, so I am well aware of the energy and ideas she will bring to the committee.”
