CoJMC is seeking applications for student team members for the 2018 Bateman Competition, a national competition held by the Public Relations Student Society of America. This is an opportunity for students to channel their best works for a real-world PR opportunity that allows them to research, plan, implement, evaluate and pitch their campaigns.
Students accepted to the team will enroll in a zero-credit-hour course for the fall. Meeting times will be arranged at a later date. The first portion of the course begins Oct. 2 through early December and will focus on campaign research and strategy.
The second part of the course will require students to enroll in either ADPR339 or ADPR439 by permission, depending on which prerequisites the student holds at that time. Each of those courses will be worth three credit hours. The second portion of the course begins Jan. 8 through early May and will focus on creating campaign tactics, implementation, assessing overall campaign effectiveness and sending in a campaign pitch to PRSSA judges.
This year’s Bateman campaign will will team up with With Purpose, a youth-led movement dedicated to making sure kids with cancer have better treatment options. Previous Bateman campaigns have addressed social issues such as mental health, veterans, affordable housing, bullying and obesity. In the first three years participating in competition, the CoJMC Bateman teams earned a third-place and honorable mention in the national competition as well as “Best of Show” and “Outstanding Strategy to Address a Problem” in the student division of PRSA Nebraska’s Paper Anvil Awards.
