More than 10 years ago, Kevin Brebner sent an application to HuskerVison on an impulse. He ended up spending three and a half years as an intern, and then started working for the Miami Dolphins after graduation.

“I was unsure about what I wanted to major in,” he said. “I applied on a whim and got the internship. I ended up loving it and it took me to what I do today.”

“Skills that incoming people (in the production industry) don’t know, I learned my first year at HuskerVision,” said Brebner. “HuskerVision prepared me for the real world. They had us sink or swim, and I swam.”

Kevin Brebner is a CoJMC alumnus who was unsure about his future plans after graduation. The uncertainties brought him to apply to HuskerVision, and that is where he leaned to swim.

HuskerVision produces live game entertainment along with producing content that is aired on the Big Ten Network and local affiliates. HuskerVision hires 25 or more student interns a year who work with the 10 full-time employees in the studio for all home Nebraska athletic games.

Brebner’s first big project with HuskerVision was editing for the Nebraska Football Show, a television show aired by stations across the state. Kirk Hartman, executive director of video production for HuskerVision, asked Brebner if he would be interested in this opportunity and he replied with apprehensiveness, “OK.”

“I am so happy that I took on this project because I felt more confident and continued to edit for the Nebraska Football Show,” he said.

He was able to prove to himself and the HuskerVision staff that he was more than capable.

“His work on our Nebraska Football Show was at a professional level even as a student,” Hartman said. “I knew that his creativity and work ethic would take him far in our industry.”

After Brebner graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, he went to Miami, where he worked as the Dolphins’ producer of graphics and video. For two years, he helped edit all content that was on the game screens. After gaining more experience and confidence in the production field, he made his way back to the Midwest where he currently works with the Kansas City Chiefs. In Brebner’s five years with the Chiefs, he has been promoted three times. Brebner’s first position with the Chiefs was associate producer of content. One year later he moved up to producer where he excelled for two years. Lead producer was next and now, Brebner’s role is director of production for the Chiefs.

Brebner oversees all video that the Chiefs produce– in-game screens, post-game and pregame show, off season TV show, digital and social content and pre-season game broadcasts.”

Now you can find Brebner every Sunday for home games at Arrowhead Stadium working in the control room directing the show.
