Associate News Director - KGFW AM/FM (Kearney, NE)

KGFW AM/FM in Kearney, NE has an fantastic opening for an individual who will collect, analyze and present on-air information about newsworthy events. Limited creativity in original writing of copy; mainly routine reporting of facts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Develops and maintains relations with newsmakers and the community.
-Monitors news development by listening to scanners, watching TV, monitoring online news media websites, social media streams and reading the newspaper. Ascertains local issues.
-Interviews news sources at remote locations and executes live in-field reporting from the scene of breaking and developing news events. Uses discretion in dealing with sources.
-Gathers and writes news by verifying details and researching news events.
-Enters information into computer to prepare news copy.
-Enters news stories via websites and social media platforms.
-Anchors newscasts live & recorded
-Reports on local are sports when needed.
-Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, FCC and any other relevant laws, regulations or company guidelines.

Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; Associate Degree from a two year college; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be knowledgeable in local community and national events.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to possess good telephone and communication skills, and operate a digital editor and other broadcast audio equipment. Ability to operate a computer for general office functionality. Frequent interaction with the local community and employees. Ability to think and process information on the spot during live broadcasts. Ability to deal with a high level of stress because of the deadlines and live in-field reporting. The employee must occasionally work long hours during breaking news events.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver's license and state mandated auto insurance.
