Judge Smith Camp has an ongoing externship program. If you are interested in being considered for a Fall 2012 externship position in her chambers, please log on to ROSCOE and submit a cover letter, resume (including class rank) and a short writing sample. Application materials can be addressed to the Judicial Externship Selection Committee.

Nature of work:
(a) Research and writing of memoranda on specific issues related to pending cases. (Issues may concern criminal, civil, federal, and state matters, but are generally focused on federal civil
matters.) Maintaining confidentiality of information viewed and discussed in chambers is essential.
(b) Proof-reading and cite-checking of draft orders, including suggestions for editing and revision.
(c) Participation in meetings with lawyers, clerks and the judge in chambers; meetings with jury panels before and after trial proceedings; and observation of trials and courtroom proceedings.
(d) Filling in for judicial assistant, as needed, in reception area.

Hours worked: Flexible. During the semester, Judge Smith Camp would like to have the extern work at least eight hours per week, at a consistent schedule.


For Fall 2012 applications must be in by April 6th.
This is a competitive process and the committee will be looking for strong academics and excellent writing skills.
