Think the E-flat clarinet is only an orchestral instrument used to portray such characters as the titular mythical prankster "Till" in Richard Strauss's famous tone poem, Till Eulenspiegel Einmal Anders!??? Hixson-Lied Professor of Clarinet, Dr. Diane Barger, showcases the instrument's capabilities in her September 29th recital, "Duos, Dances and Other Delights" at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

In addition to works for E-flat clarinet by Panizza, Bolcom, Sheng and Ponchielli, Barger will perform works by Reade and Schocker for the "standard" B-flat clarinet. Guest clarinetist Dr. Denise Gainey (University of Alabama-Birmingham) and UNL Professor of Piano, Dr. Mark Clinton, will join Barger for this delightful program.

"This is truly a recital filled with 'delights',” Barger said. “From the operatic and virtuosic pieces by Panizza and Ponchielli, to the charming dances of Bolcom and the beautiful duo sonata of Schocker, the somber lament of Sheng's "Little Cabbage", and the beautiful musical portrait of a Victorian kitchen garden, this concert has something for everyone."
