The Moran Woodwind Quintet, the resident Faculty Quintet at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (John Bailey, flute; William McMullen, oboe; Diane Barger, clarinet; Jeffrey McCray, bassoon and Alan Mattingly, horn), will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students/seniors.

The four pieces (in order) include:

Rengaines, which means "old songs"--a light non-standard opener, in which a simple theme is transformed into a march, a polka, a waltz, a romance, a cadenza, etc.

Taffanel's quintet -- a major standard in the repertoire, very romantic, and very French.

Kvandal's Quintet -- non-standard, and very dark and edgy, with a distinct Shostakovich influence.

Lalo Schifrin's "La Nouvelle Orléans" -- Schifrin's take on New Orleans jazz. Shifrin is the composer of the Mission Impossible theme and mostly wrote for television and movies.
