"Rethinking J.S. Bach's 'The Art of Fugue,'" a book edited by Associate Professor of Practice Esti Sheinberg, was chosen in the United Kingdom as one of the five core titles for 2016 in music.
Each quarter GOBI Library Solutions releases a segment of U.K. Core Titles, involving U.K. subject-specialist bibliographers selecting these titles from the new academic titles published in the United Kingdom.
The profiling bibliographers select these titles for inclusion on the list using a complex selection process. The titles selected are carefully screened to identify major titles that will stand the test of time and that would be considered standard (core) works in any good undergraduate collection.
In "Rethinking J.S. Bach's 'The Art of Fugue,'" Anatoly P. Milka presents a consistent and coherent solution to the unresolved questions about the history, structure and appearance of J.S. Bach’s "The Art of Fugue," opening new perspectives for further exploration of this musical masterpiece. The book was translated by Marina Ritzarev and edited by Sheinberg.
Sheinberg is a member of the International Music Signification Project, the Semiotic Society of America, the American Musicological Society, the Israeli Musicological Society and the Society of Music Theory. She has presented her research in various national and international conferences and gave public lectures in Israel, Scotland and the U.S. on a variety of musical subjects.
She received her teaching certificate from the Music Teachers College in Tel-Aviv, her B.A. summa cum laude in Musicology and Music Education from the University of Tel-Aviv, Israel, and her Ph.D. in Music from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
She is currently co-editing "The Routledge Handbook of Music Signification," with Prof. William Dougherty from Drake University in Iowa, scheduled for submission in 2019.
