Spots still open for TEAMS secondary science workshop

Attention secondary science teachers who teach Earth science or environmental studies! This summer, the NDE and UNL have partnered to offer a professional development workshop on Earth science for grades 7-12 science teachers in five cities across the state through Nebraska Partnership TEAMS.

You can choose to take the workshop for 3 hours of graduate credit at UNL if you want, but it’s not a requirement. Teachers are also paid a stipend of $15 per hour of class, which you could choose to apply toward the tuition and fees. Travel and lodging to the site nearest you are also covered (some rules apply). Here are the secondary science workshop details:

TITLE: GEOS 898: Special Topics: Earth's Hydrosphere and Geosphere
DESCRIPTION: This course provides teachers with the science content knowledge to more confidently and effectively teach Earth Science concepts dealing with water (hydrosphere) and rock (geosphere). It provides practical and hands-on lessons that teachers can use in their classrooms, and course facilitators model how to implement active learning strategies to teach the Earth Science content.
DATES: June 5-9 and 12-16, 2017 (both weeks are required), and four Saturdays during the school year (TBD by your regional group)
TIMES: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (80 total hours of class)
CREDIT HOURS: 3
STIPEND: $15 per hour of class attended
SITES: Crete, Fremont, Grand Island, Norfolk and North Platte
INSTRUCTORS: TEAMS teacher leaders (already selected)
NOTES: Field trips will be part of the course.
