Bridal March for the Children, Survivors, & Those Lost to Domestic Violence

"Generation Hope will be sponsoring a bridal march and rally in honor of child abuse awareness month. It is our goal to bring awareness to domestic violence, specifically how the effects of this violence impact children, and to advocate for the need for new and tougher legislation regarding how cases involving domestic violence are handled.

This event is free and open to the public. Men, women, and children welcome! You do not need to be a survivor to join. Participants will wear wedding dresses, tuxedos, or dress in all white or black. We dress in wedding attire because so many survivors of domestic violence were promised “happily ever after” for themselves and their children by their abusers only to be given “happily never after.” We march in wedding attire to signify the broken promises of those that promised to love and protect us and our children only to bring fear, shame, pain, and death to so many of us. “Til death do us part” should not come at the hands of our partners. We march to encourage our children to break this cycle of violence. We rally for changing our laws so that offenders will be held accountable for these crimes against our children and us.

We will begin our march near Memorial Stadium (600 Stadium Drive, Lincoln, NE) and end at the Nebraska State Capitol (West Plaza, 1445 K Street, Lincoln, NE).

Date/Time: April 05, 2014. 10:00am-12:00pm.

Since this is a march through the city of Lincoln the Lincoln Police Department has asked us to give them an idea of the number of participants we may have.
