New and returning students alike are invited to celebrate the academic year (and new Husker sports season!) during the annual 3-day Big Red Welcome Festival, August 22–24. Enjoy UNL traditions, food, fun activities, and entertainment with fellow students before the first day of classes. This year’s events include:

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22
• 11:30 a.m. CASNR Freshman Luau– Hardin Hall
Special Events shuttle bus will start running from the Henzlik Bus Stop at 11:15 am.

• 4:15 p.m. Commuter Student Gathering – Husker Village
Meet orientation leaders between 4:15-4:30. (You may park in the green Commuter lot just south of the Village or, because it is after 3:00 pm, you may also park in the red Faculty lot to the south. If additional parking is needed, go to the Commuter lot west of 14th & Avery Garage.) We will leave at 4:30 to walk to the Convocation at the Devaney together. After the Convocation, dinner will be provided at the dining hall. At 6:45, a session will take place in the Union Auditorium about resources for academic success and how to make the most of your experience as a commuter student. After the formal presentation, we will break into groups to give you the opportunity to meet other commuter students. Finally, we will all go to the Tunnel Walk together!

• 4:30 p.m. Transfer Student Welcome – Nebraska Union
All transfer students are welcome to attend and kick-off their arrival at UNL!

• 5 p.m. New Student Convocation – Devaney Center
All new students are encouraged to attend this annual tradition to be officially welcomed to the University and their academic career by featured speaker Chancellor Harvey Perlman.

• 7 p.m. The Cornhusker Marching Band Exhibition – Memorial Stadium

• 8:30 p.m. Tunnel Walk – Memorial Stadium

• 9:10 p.m. Pep Rally – Memorial Stadium
Cheer on the Big Red Machine as Husker football and volleyball players give a sneak preview of their new seasons. The Scarlets and Cheer Squad will electrify the atmosphere and lead key Nebraska chants and fight songs.

• 9 p.m. Husker Mania – Campus Rec Center
Join us immediately following the Tunnel Walk to enjoy free food, entertainment, games, and prizes in the Campus Rec Center. Celebrate your campus arrival with Lincoln businesses, campus organizations & clubs, UNL Intramural Sports, Outdoor Adventures, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Topper's Pizza, Firehouse Subs, Pepsi, UNL Computer & Phone Store, Fitness & Wellness, and over 30 sport clubs.


SATURDAY, AUGUST 23

• 9 a.m. All Learning Community Welcome Event - Mabel Lee Fields

• 9-11 a.m. Find Your Fit - Campus Rec Center
Learn about our fitness programs including strength training & conditioning, group fitness and personal training in addition to exploring our strength, functional and cardio equipment

• 11 a.m. Travel the Trails - Outdoor Adventures Center
Find your way to a 5K walk or jog so you know where to access the trails when you are ready to take on the outstanding Lincoln trail system.

• 11 a.m. Ice Cream Bike Ride - Outdoor Adventures Center
Bring your own or borrow a bike from Outdoor Adventures and enjoy a ride through the Lincoln bike trails ending your journey with a an ice cream treat. Registration is limited. Register beginning August 22 through crec.unl.edu or at Husker Mania

• 1 p.m. Class Schedule Tours - Nebraska Union
Tours begin every half hour until 3:30 pm. More information to come.

• 1 p.m. Rock the Rec - Outdoor Adventures Center
Try your hand at the indoor climbing & bouldering gym in the new Outdoor Adventure Center.

• 3-5 p.m. OASIS Kickoff: Celebration of Cultures - Green Space

Try your hand at the climbing facility in our brand new Outdoor Adventure Center.

• 9:30 p.m. Party at the Union - Nebraska Union
One of the most widely attended student events of the school year and serves as a great way to meet and have fun with other students. Party at the Union is held in the Nebraska Union and on the Plaza and includes activities such as: karaoke, caricature artist, Xbox & PS3 games, improv comedy, student group concerts, a DJ on the Plaza and more! Party at the Union ends with a pancake feed where students can enjoy a late night (or early morning?) breakfast.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 24
• 3 p.m. Out-of-State Student Gathering - Nebraska Union Heritage Room
Meet your fellow out-of-state students and leaders. We will divide according to state and meet each other in small groups.

• 6:30 p.m. Welcome Festival - Stadium Loop
Join 10,000+ UNL students at the annual Big Red Welcome Festival 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come mingle and get info on hundreds of student clubs and organizations and get free samples and giveaways from local businesses and vendors like Raising Cane's, University Bookstore, and Nebraska Athletics. Bring your friends, bring your roommates, and bring your neighbors for oodles of fun. This special event only occurs once a year - the day before your first class day in the fall semester!
