Career conversations call for careful listening

Winter break is the perfect time for students to relax and recharge before their spring semester. During this lull in classes, tests, homework and stress, they can better focus on their family and friends. It’s also an opportunity for them to think about their future plans. For many students, it can often be a daunting task to think of the future, especially when it comes to their career. But, they don’t have to do it alone! You can be there to help them along the way.

One way to help your student ease their stress is simply by offering support. You can help lay the groundwork for their career development by asking thoughtful questions throughout the break. Ask them about their goals, their coursework and any career directions they've considered or explored. You can help them find resources, set up job shadows or encourage them to schedule an appointment at Career Services to speak with an advisor.

Career Services guides students through activities to engage and prepare them for the ongoing process of career development. Career Services works with students of all ages and academic areas. Career development is a process, and Career Services can help your student wherever they are in that process.
