Counseling and Psychological Services offer a number of mental health resources for your student.

Universities can sometimes feel big and lonely. If this happens, your student may start to feel stressed, anxious, hopeless, isolated or on edge.

They do not need to deal with these concerns alone. Counseling and Psychological Services can help! CAPS exists to help students explore their feelings and thoughts and learn helpful ways to improve their mental, psychological and emotional well-being when issues arise.

If your student shows signs that they need support, connect them with CAPS. Although you cannot make an appointment for your student, you can encourage them to call 402.472.5000.

Counseling and Psychological Services offer a number of mental health resources for your student:

  • Crisis intervention – Staff is available on a same-day basis Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for students who are in crisis. Students can call 402.472.5000 or walk over to the University Health Center to arrange a crisis appointment.
  • After-hours assistance – If your student is experiencing a crisis when the Health Center is closed, he or she can call 402.472.7450 and follow the prompts to be connected with an on-call therapist.
  • Individual counseling – Students who pay the University Program and Facilities Fee get some visits for no extra charge. Visit the Health Center website for current UPFF-covered services. Discounted rates and financial assistance are available.
  • Support groups – Most are free for students. They are a great way for students to meet new people, get the support they need and learn about resources available for their concern.
  • Online resources – The Health Center website is continually updated to include more educational and informational resources for students and parents. View a list of helpful mental health apps, watch videos and read articles about common student concerns, get tips on how your student can help a friend, learn ways parents can help their students and more. Keep checking the website throughout the semester as additional resources become available.
