Volunteers needed for international student/scholar tax prep

Student Engagement is recruiting volunteers for the IRS non-resident Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program for the spring 2012 semester. The program offers free tax preparation assistance to UNL international students and scholars, and other non-U.S. residents in the community, every Tuesday afternoon from Feb. 26 through April 9.

To volunteer, you do not have to be at every session or an entire session; you can sign up according to your availability at our training. Anyone can volunteer. Individuals do not need expertise in math or accounting. Each volunteer will need to be certified and will receive an official IRS VITA Certificate. Volunteers must be certified every year.

All volunteers are required to attend the three-hour training session, 1 to 4 p.m., Feb. 7 in the Nebraska Union. Other arrangements can be made if individuals are unable to attend the training session.

The tax assistance sessions are:

Feb. 26, March 5 and 12 — Noon to 6 p.m., Nebraska Union, Georgian Suite

March 19 — Noon to 5 p.m., Nebraska Union, Colonial Room

March 26, April 2 and 9 — Noon to 6 p.m., Nebraska Union, Colonial Room
