Three student-run programs that address health disparities on campus have received funding from the University Health Center.

The awards were offered through a competitive process open to UNL's Recognized Student Organizations. Announced Nov. 12, the awards are intended to provide funding to RSOs that could identify a gap or a need on campus that would directly help students and reduce health disparities at UNL. Health disparities are gaps in the quality of health that reflect differences between groups. These disparities may stem from many factors.

Nearly $6,000 was awarded by the University Health Center. Programs that received funding are:

PREVENT: Agents of Change — A program to teach violence prevention education and bystander intervention. Groups targeted by the program include: male students; rural students; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students; students of color; students with disabilities; student athletes; and fraternity and sorority members. The funding will allow PREVENT to reach an additional 400 students.

Men @ Nebraska — A program to educate male students and address hegemonic masculinity and male body image issues. The funding will allow Men @ Nebraska to reach an additional 1,000 students.

Psychology of Gender Student Organization — A program to educate women of color about a healthy body image and psychological well-being for women through the reconstructing Barbie outreach and impact program. The funding will allow Psychology of Gender Student Organization to reach an additional 150 students.
