Meet and chat with Diplomat in Residence Mr. Robert B. Andrew and get insight information into what's the life of a foreign service officer like, how to apply for the job, and how to make yourself stand out.

Robert B. Andrew, a Foreign Service officer in the U.S. Department of State, has been the Political Section Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, since 2011. His work involves reporting on Swedish domestic and foreign security policy issues. He has reported extensively on Sweden’s evolving relationship with NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) as well as Sweden’s leading role in the European Union’s outreach to Eastern European countries. He supervises two local Swedish employees as well as political interns.

Mr. Andrew was the Deputy Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica, 2007-2010; a political-military officer at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 2005-2007; a consular officer who adjudicated non-immigrant visas for Mexicans wishing to enter the U.S. in Mexico City, Mexico, 2003-2005; and before joining the Foreign Service, was a U.S. Army officer from 1989-2002. He also received a Meritorious Service Medal for his overall service in the military.
