SNR in the News

As a new feature, "Inside SNR" will regularly highlight media reports that feature work, research and people from the School of Natural Resources.

The National Drought Mitigation Center has been a prominent and regular fixture in national and international news outlets as the 2012 drought grew more and more severe over the summer. Mark Svoboda, leader of the NDMC's monitoring program, climatologist Brian Fuchs and NDMC director Michael Hayes were all attributed as sources in major publications and media outlets, ranging from local television and newspapers to The Washington Post and the BBC.

While the NDMC was dominant in grabbing headlines (see below), SNR placed prominently in other areas as well.

Most recently, SNR hydroclimatologist John Lenters' work with the Global Lake Temperature Collaboration was noted by "Water Currents," a featured news site produced by National Geographic.

Dave Wedin, director of Nine-Mile Prairie, was a prominent feature in an Al Jazeera English video segment about the shrinking prairie space in the United States and UNL's preservation efforts at Nine-Mile Prairie.

Brian Wardlow, director of CALMIT, was featured in a story by NASA's "Earth Observatory" about the GRACE satellite system used to track the nation's water supply.

And Amanda Fujikawa, an SNR grad student in forensic entomology, was the featured subject of a Scientific American article that focused on her unique findings in the Nebraska Sandhills.
