“Ubiquitination at the Endoplasmic Reticulum and Mitochondria: Insights into Ubiquitin Ligase Function and Cancer Cell Biology,” will be presented by Dr. Allan Weissman, National Cancer Institute. The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is the primary means of targeting cellular proteins for degradation in a regulated manner. The UPS is integral to the critical process of endoplasmic-reticulum (ER)-associated degradation (ERAD). More recently, based on work from groups including ours, it has become apparent that the UPS also plays roles in mitochondrial-associated degradation (MAD) and that MAD is essential for mitochondrial function. We have also determined that MAD plays a critical role in responses to genotoxic stress. Recent work from our laboratory in these areas will be presented.
The seminar begins at 4:00 p.m., preceded by a reception at 3:30 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public. The Beadle Center is located at 1901 Vine Street. The complete schedule of seminars may be found at http://biotech.unl.edu/
