UNL will transfer management of the University Health Center to the University of Nebraska Medical Center starting July 1.
The transfer calls for UNMC to engage students, faculty, staff, the UHC Student Advisory Board, campus leaders and stakeholders to develop a long-term plan for the health center. No immediate changes in UHC staffing or structure are planned.
Chancellor Harvey Perlman presented the plan to UHC staff on June 12.
"This partnership will help UNL to continue to advance quality health care for our students," Perlman said. "I appreciate the willingness of our colleagues at UNMC to assist us in assuring a continued high level of health care for our student body."
UNMC will develop the long-term plan in the coming year. Leaders from UNMC will meet with UHC staff to begin planning the transition.
"I was pleased when Chancellor Perlman reached out to us to discuss this opportunity," said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold. "We are taking on this responsibility because we have expertise in the areas of health care management and delivery, which have grown increasingly complex. We are excited about ensuring that this clinic best meets the health needs of UNL students."
UNMC will work to build a referral network with specialty partners in the Lincoln and Omaha areas, to ensure the highest quality and best access and follow-up to health care services for students, Gold said.
UHC health care services are available to current UNL students only. The UHC pharmacy is open to use by faculty, staff and students.
